les touche de miuccia.

Miuccia Prada. She's one of the most powerful women in fashion and just the word Prada is synonymous  with classic, ladylike dressing with an edge. Collection after collection for both Prada and Miu Miu she produces unexpected cult favourites : the simple black backpack that became the It item of the 1990s, to the lipstick and postcard prints that was as famous as Schiaperelli's lobster-prints in the 2000s, banana prints in 2011 and countless other Prada signatures that has made Prada such a covetable fashion maison. My favourites however are the more recent Prada creations : the Prada Poeme sunglasses and the Miu Miu A/W 2013 polka-dotted coats. The Prada Poeme sunglasses : who knew florals did not have to be all soft and feminine? These square sunglasses gave a totally modern makeover to florals with the gorgeous 3D hand-painted fleurs and it gave us a new and très chic way to wear flowers on our heads. And Miu Miu's polka-dotted coats? Dressed in whimsical pastels, the polka dots gave a fresh breath of air to a season that was a sea of black, and it quickly became a favourite amongst photographers and fashion editors alike. And who could forget the Pink Lady editorial where Cara Delevingne donned the Miu Miu polka dotted jacquard coat?

What do you think of the pieces?

tropical goddesses.

I AM OFFICIALLY OBSESSED with the November 2013 issues of Vogue Brasil and Vogue Mexico. These two covers are by far my favourites in the entire year, I mean finally a cover that actually made me want to grab the magazine off the rack. I've always dreamed of such gorgeous covers, and spotting them was just a dream come true. And the fact that two of my favourite models in the world, Karlie Kloss and Behati Prinsloo fronted them made the covers so much more covetable. I love how the pink letters went so well with the lush green background while Karlie and Behati utterly screamed tropical goddesses. Just looking at the covers can make me dream of the perfect holiday : donning a studded glossy Versace dress with a birdcage veil for a glamorous day in the city, but dressing down to a silk Animale piece for an exclusive beach party at night. All that in a luxurious, tropical city with bright lights and breathtaking scenery.

dream a little dream.

editorial : georgia may jagger in vogue uk
Fell in love with this gorgeous editorial featuring Georgia May Jagger in the October issue of British Vogue, frolicking in an quintessentially English meadow dotted with white daisies and roses. Running free in the countryside with the autumn breeze and going horse riding is something I've never done before as a city girl, so Georgia doing exactly that while wearing a Valentino silk-chiffon dress and a dotted tulle Chloé blouse in this ethereal shoot made me dream about it even more. And what's an idyllic editorial without soft pastels and vintage florals? Dressed in a feminine collection of coats and frocks : think an Emporio Armani coat with dusk pink florals, a romantic Lanvin organza blouse, sophisticated silk pieces from Rochas, Paul & Joe and Louis Vuitton, an ornate lace Dolce & Gabbana dress and a cocoon-like Céline coat in a whimsical feather print, these photos felt like a hazy sartorial dream come true. Perfect for my fall-and-school's-out mood to dream a little dream with this whimsical editorial.

parade of the pastels.

Pastels, pastels, pastels.

The only shades on the runway that can make me dream : Celine's A/W 2013 pastel-filled lineup, Carven's deliciously oversized coat, Burberry's delightful collection in so many sherbet hues, Dior's Spring garden , Balenciaga's minimalistic-chic S/S 2014 and countless other Spring collections such as Prabal Gurung and Alexander Wang. Soft and dusky, pastels are extremely versatile and are usually paired up with minimalistic designs or bright metallics. It's the top trend this Spring because it's just so wearable (think coats, accessories, gowns and even cosmetics) .....according to Glamour anyway. I mean, just find anything in your wardrobe and it can definitely be put together with a pastel piece without having a serious fashion faux pas. And having made an appearance in so many magazines and editorials lately, it's also the perfect wardrobe choice for fall. Although being me pink is definitely my favourite, but there's also tons of other pastel colours ---- lilac, mint green, baby blue....

Pastels are definitely not for the faint-hearted style-wise but take up these Ladurée-inspired shades quick, because pastels are fast achieving eternally chic status.

coachella couture.

Spotting this editorial was practically living summer all over again. This sun bathed shoot featuring Tanya Katysheva for the November issue of Marie Claire Australia can only be described in two words : Coachella couture. Donned in a to-die-for mix of summer wear from a Burberry gown with a metallic collar to bright fabrics and knits and set in the gorgeous Splendour festival a la Coachella, this makes me want to go back to the warm, balmy days of summer where it was all hot and breezy, where sunglasses and mid-length frocks were the perfect outfit for a day out in the sun. With the arrival of fall, Tanya channelling Coachella was just enough to bring back the summer vibes and all the dreaming that came with it.

links à la mode #132 + tumblr makeover.

I'm so thrilled that Jenine picked me for the Links à la Mode again! This is my third time already and I can't tell you how excited I felt when I saw the link of my Chanel post on the weekly roundup. Expect everything from the latest trends from the Spring 2014 runway to different ways to style affordable fashion from this week's links, mine being the trends and the reasons why you should die for Chanel's Spring 2014. On another note, I've recently gave my Tumblr blog a makeover and I'm really happy with the the way it turned out. Do check it out for me and tell me what you think about it!

Making the Effort

Making the effort every day has been on my mind lately. It's fall, the typical time for dressing up. Fashion Month opens the floodgates to trendy people. And while, life may have other things in store for you: unusually warm October, working at home, not working at all... etc, making an effort still matters. Yesterday I was just talking about how making an effort doesn't have to be too much work. It's just a matter of planning things a little. That's what the links this week tell me, they peek into trends for next year, they organize the trends this year, and give a little inspiration for the upcoming holiday we all love: Halloween!

for the love of skorts.

"CHRISTINE centenera" "vogue Australia" "fashion editor" "style icon" "christopher Esber" "givenchy" "style icon" "street style" "white dress" "candice Lake" "candice Lake blogger" "candice lake photographer" "candicelake"
For the love of skorts. When I spotted this skort on Christine Centenera ( the uber-glam senior fashion editor at Vogue Australia), I can't tell you how in love I was. To me, it had everything that made up a statement piece : comfort, style and a sort of edgy-glam that is rarely seen in high-street labels nowadays. Thanks to Zara, the skort has been re-invented into a super posh, super chic and super safe (it won't accidentally blow up when the wind blows) version that does the "business in the front, party at the back" with panache. It's assymetrical envelope-like folds gives it the tailored, polished quality of a skirt, yet it has the comfort and versatility of shorts. Worn by almost everyone who is anyone - Karolina Kurkova, Rumi Neely, Chiara Ferragni ,Olivia Palermo, Aimee Song you name it, the skort is definitely the It item of the season. Even Raf Simons gave the skort the Dior touch for Spring 2014 and sent Daria Strokous down the runway to open the show. Whether you dress it up into a look worthy of a feature in Vogue, or you dress it down into a street-cool look with sneakers and a sweater, the styling possibilities are endless. So grab your skort now, or you don't make the cut for Spring 2014.

pfw : chanel spring 2014

Karl Lagerfeld seems to have an eternal love for the oversized. From his famous attention-grabbing hula hoop bag to his larger-than-life Chanel globe, his obsession with huge things was definitely felt throughout the fashion world for the past few seasons. For Spring 2014, Chanel's runway show was yet another grand one filled with supersized objects, the objet de grandissement this time however were artistic objects and iconic Chanel pieces. (That's like so Karl! Who else is able to come up with a runway show as unexpected, amazing and unique as Chanel?) Think the interlocking-Cs entirely made out of luscious pearls, a Chanel No.5 bottle concocted into a robot, oversized Chanel (classic, I might add) tweed two-piece suits and a supersized take on the signature quilted bag, all in one place at the Grand Palais turned Chanel art museum.

Supermodels were also a big draw of the show with every one of them being either world-famous or an up-and-coming face. From Cara Delevingne (who opened), Joan Smalls and Ondria Hardin; to Sasha Luss, Liu Wen, Edie Campbell and Lindsey Wixson (who closed); the show was practically an ode to the most famous models in the world. Walking with them in doll-like black and platinum blunt bobs were Miranda Kerr and Alexa Chung, both who returned to the runway only this season.
