esprit des fêtes.

CAN YOU BELIEVE CHRISTMAS WENT BY THIS QUICKLY? Just three days ago I was counting down to the most magical day of the year, waking up to chilly morning the next day {although it's supposed to be warm in my part of the world} surrounded by rainy weather. A few quick hours later, I was swept into the busyness of family get-togethers and glittery festive soirées; spending Christmas night having a scrumptious dinner amidst gorgeous fairy lights and candle light; then cuddling on the couch under a pile of blankets to watch a couple of feel-good holiday films; and finally unwrapping gifts under a golden mistletoe-filled Christmas tree, with delightful carol records playing in the background. I also got to visit Orchard Road afterwards {a really famous shopping boulevard in my country} to admire the pink and purple Christmas decorations that adorned the street, making me dream of the even more wonderful Christmases other people are spending in romantic Paris, exciting New York City and everywhere else in the world. It was truly a beautiful end to a night that I never wanted to end.
Now with Christmas well behind me and with myself still being in the mood for holidaying and relaxation, all I want to do is to take a much-needed and well-deserved break for the next few days, before its New Year's Eve, which then also means the start of the school term. Jusque là {till then}, I hope you would have a most wonderful and exciting New Year's Eve, however you spend it to be. Here's some holiday inspiration to reminisce of Christmas and to appreciate the last few days of the season, as well as the year...

90s L.A. Bombshell

There's nothing like sipping hot chocolate, flipping through fashion magazines and finding the perfect editorial in the cold of autumn. Some editorials make you dream and others make you start an entirely new list of wardrobe must-haves {think gorgeous haute couture gowns in a stunning flower garden reminiscent of Dior}.
But this one featuring the beautiful Iselin Steiro makes me every girl want to be her : a bona fide 90s bombshell with her luscious, blonde coiffure, alluring timeless gaze and mile-long legs; living a leisurely lifestyle in the glamorous L.A. -- fabulous soirées on breezy nights, lounging around in her Californian home and being an It Girl about the city in nothing less than statement pieces {especially all the fur coats} from Gucci, Hermès, Lanvin, DSQUARED², Prada, Marc Jacobs and Chloé. And can you believe that this was inspired by Lynn Bracken in the film L.A. Confidential? Film + fashion + holiday inspiration, all thanks to the glossy pages of Vogue Paris.

VSFS 2013 | Runway

EVERYONE'S FAVOURITE SHOW or what?! It has been a week since the most glamorous fashion show on the planet, the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2013 was staged in New York, and I've been dreaming about it ever since. From the glittery catwalk and the glamorous atmosphere, to the world-famous Angels and models clad in impossibly breathtaking outfits, to the bright lights and sparkles worthy of the red, or should I say pink-carpet, the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show has long been one of the most coveted fashion events of the year, not to mention being an endless source of inspiration and dreams for girls all around the world {like yours truly}. Switching from their pink satin robes to gorgeous million-dollar lingerie, the supermodels this year were featured in segments more fabulous than ever such as Parisian Nights, Shipwrecked, British Invasion, Birds of Paradise, Snow Angels and PINK Network wearing shimmery six-inch Nicholas Kirkwoods to . Here are some of my favourite atmosphere shots of the VSFS 2013, get ready for a major glitter fest.

Marant + H&M

The queen of luxe bohemian meets minimalistic Parisian chic, Isabel Marant has always been the designer that everyone wanted to have a piece of but could not. {The prices, yes I feel you. It's always the prices isn't it?} Watching It-girls around the world donning Marant on the streets in utter envy is now over with the arrival of the most covetable collaboration/collection of the year, Isabel Marant for H&M. H&M collaborations have always given those who can't afford designer pieces {like a lot of us} a glimpse of what it is like to own one at just a high-street price, and that's why when they announced that they were teaming up with Isabel {who happens to be one of my favourite designers}, I was so excited! I mean, who wouldn't be?

journées d'hiver l'automne.

.....time flies and it's already the second last month of the year. Christmas décor is everywhere right now, and since the holidays have started for me, it's the perfect time to dream about winter days....days perfect for breakfast in bed, nights snuggling up in between cosy quilt covers with a cup of hot chocolate, reading your favourite tome (or Vogue), dreaming about faux or not, fur stoles and gorgeous winter couture, switching light summer wear for more voluminous velvet coats and leather boots, and watching films by the warm living room....and here's a little inspiration for those wonderful autumn days and the winter ones to come...

les touche de miuccia.

Miuccia Prada. She's one of the most powerful women in fashion and just the word Prada is synonymous  with classic, ladylike dressing with an edge. Collection after collection for both Prada and Miu Miu she produces unexpected cult favourites : the simple black backpack that became the It item of the 1990s, to the lipstick and postcard prints that was as famous as Schiaperelli's lobster-prints in the 2000s, banana prints in 2011 and countless other Prada signatures that has made Prada such a covetable fashion maison. My favourites however are the more recent Prada creations : the Prada Poeme sunglasses and the Miu Miu A/W 2013 polka-dotted coats. The Prada Poeme sunglasses : who knew florals did not have to be all soft and feminine? These square sunglasses gave a totally modern makeover to florals with the gorgeous 3D hand-painted fleurs and it gave us a new and très chic way to wear flowers on our heads. And Miu Miu's polka-dotted coats? Dressed in whimsical pastels, the polka dots gave a fresh breath of air to a season that was a sea of black, and it quickly became a favourite amongst photographers and fashion editors alike. And who could forget the Pink Lady editorial where Cara Delevingne donned the Miu Miu polka dotted jacquard coat?

What do you think of the pieces?

tropical goddesses.

I AM OFFICIALLY OBSESSED with the November 2013 issues of Vogue Brasil and Vogue Mexico. These two covers are by far my favourites in the entire year, I mean finally a cover that actually made me want to grab the magazine off the rack. I've always dreamed of such gorgeous covers, and spotting them was just a dream come true. And the fact that two of my favourite models in the world, Karlie Kloss and Behati Prinsloo fronted them made the covers so much more covetable. I love how the pink letters went so well with the lush green background while Karlie and Behati utterly screamed tropical goddesses. Just looking at the covers can make me dream of the perfect holiday : donning a studded glossy Versace dress with a birdcage veil for a glamorous day in the city, but dressing down to a silk Animale piece for an exclusive beach party at night. All that in a luxurious, tropical city with bright lights and breathtaking scenery.

dream a little dream.

editorial : georgia may jagger in vogue uk
Fell in love with this gorgeous editorial featuring Georgia May Jagger in the October issue of British Vogue, frolicking in an quintessentially English meadow dotted with white daisies and roses. Running free in the countryside with the autumn breeze and going horse riding is something I've never done before as a city girl, so Georgia doing exactly that while wearing a Valentino silk-chiffon dress and a dotted tulle Chloé blouse in this ethereal shoot made me dream about it even more. And what's an idyllic editorial without soft pastels and vintage florals? Dressed in a feminine collection of coats and frocks : think an Emporio Armani coat with dusk pink florals, a romantic Lanvin organza blouse, sophisticated silk pieces from Rochas, Paul & Joe and Louis Vuitton, an ornate lace Dolce & Gabbana dress and a cocoon-like Céline coat in a whimsical feather print, these photos felt like a hazy sartorial dream come true. Perfect for my fall-and-school's-out mood to dream a little dream with this whimsical editorial.

parade of the pastels.

Pastels, pastels, pastels.

The only shades on the runway that can make me dream : Celine's A/W 2013 pastel-filled lineup, Carven's deliciously oversized coat, Burberry's delightful collection in so many sherbet hues, Dior's Spring garden , Balenciaga's minimalistic-chic S/S 2014 and countless other Spring collections such as Prabal Gurung and Alexander Wang. Soft and dusky, pastels are extremely versatile and are usually paired up with minimalistic designs or bright metallics. It's the top trend this Spring because it's just so wearable (think coats, accessories, gowns and even cosmetics) .....according to Glamour anyway. I mean, just find anything in your wardrobe and it can definitely be put together with a pastel piece without having a serious fashion faux pas. And having made an appearance in so many magazines and editorials lately, it's also the perfect wardrobe choice for fall. Although being me pink is definitely my favourite, but there's also tons of other pastel colours ---- lilac, mint green, baby blue....

Pastels are definitely not for the faint-hearted style-wise but take up these Ladurée-inspired shades quick, because pastels are fast achieving eternally chic status.

coachella couture.

Spotting this editorial was practically living summer all over again. This sun bathed shoot featuring Tanya Katysheva for the November issue of Marie Claire Australia can only be described in two words : Coachella couture. Donned in a to-die-for mix of summer wear from a Burberry gown with a metallic collar to bright fabrics and knits and set in the gorgeous Splendour festival a la Coachella, this makes me want to go back to the warm, balmy days of summer where it was all hot and breezy, where sunglasses and mid-length frocks were the perfect outfit for a day out in the sun. With the arrival of fall, Tanya channelling Coachella was just enough to bring back the summer vibes and all the dreaming that came with it.

links à la mode #132 + tumblr makeover.

I'm so thrilled that Jenine picked me for the Links à la Mode again! This is my third time already and I can't tell you how excited I felt when I saw the link of my Chanel post on the weekly roundup. Expect everything from the latest trends from the Spring 2014 runway to different ways to style affordable fashion from this week's links, mine being the trends and the reasons why you should die for Chanel's Spring 2014. On another note, I've recently gave my Tumblr blog a makeover and I'm really happy with the the way it turned out. Do check it out for me and tell me what you think about it!

Making the Effort

Making the effort every day has been on my mind lately. It's fall, the typical time for dressing up. Fashion Month opens the floodgates to trendy people. And while, life may have other things in store for you: unusually warm October, working at home, not working at all... etc, making an effort still matters. Yesterday I was just talking about how making an effort doesn't have to be too much work. It's just a matter of planning things a little. That's what the links this week tell me, they peek into trends for next year, they organize the trends this year, and give a little inspiration for the upcoming holiday we all love: Halloween!

for the love of skorts.

"CHRISTINE centenera" "vogue Australia" "fashion editor" "style icon" "christopher Esber" "givenchy" "style icon" "street style" "white dress" "candice Lake" "candice Lake blogger" "candice lake photographer" "candicelake"
For the love of skorts. When I spotted this skort on Christine Centenera ( the uber-glam senior fashion editor at Vogue Australia), I can't tell you how in love I was. To me, it had everything that made up a statement piece : comfort, style and a sort of edgy-glam that is rarely seen in high-street labels nowadays. Thanks to Zara, the skort has been re-invented into a super posh, super chic and super safe (it won't accidentally blow up when the wind blows) version that does the "business in the front, party at the back" with panache. It's assymetrical envelope-like folds gives it the tailored, polished quality of a skirt, yet it has the comfort and versatility of shorts. Worn by almost everyone who is anyone - Karolina Kurkova, Rumi Neely, Chiara Ferragni ,Olivia Palermo, Aimee Song you name it, the skort is definitely the It item of the season. Even Raf Simons gave the skort the Dior touch for Spring 2014 and sent Daria Strokous down the runway to open the show. Whether you dress it up into a look worthy of a feature in Vogue, or you dress it down into a street-cool look with sneakers and a sweater, the styling possibilities are endless. So grab your skort now, or you don't make the cut for Spring 2014.

pfw : chanel spring 2014

Karl Lagerfeld seems to have an eternal love for the oversized. From his famous attention-grabbing hula hoop bag to his larger-than-life Chanel globe, his obsession with huge things was definitely felt throughout the fashion world for the past few seasons. For Spring 2014, Chanel's runway show was yet another grand one filled with supersized objects, the objet de grandissement this time however were artistic objects and iconic Chanel pieces. (That's like so Karl! Who else is able to come up with a runway show as unexpected, amazing and unique as Chanel?) Think the interlocking-Cs entirely made out of luscious pearls, a Chanel No.5 bottle concocted into a robot, oversized Chanel (classic, I might add) tweed two-piece suits and a supersized take on the signature quilted bag, all in one place at the Grand Palais turned Chanel art museum.

Supermodels were also a big draw of the show with every one of them being either world-famous or an up-and-coming face. From Cara Delevingne (who opened), Joan Smalls and Ondria Hardin; to Sasha Luss, Liu Wen, Edie Campbell and Lindsey Wixson (who closed); the show was practically an ode to the most famous models in the world. Walking with them in doll-like black and platinum blunt bobs were Miranda Kerr and Alexa Chung, both who returned to the runway only this season.

Blogger Spotlight : Victoria Berezhna

This month's Blogger Spotlight features a very special blogger whose blog I have admired for a long time. Meet Victoria Berezhna, a self-proclaimed wanderluster who aspires to discover the world through fashion, culture and cuisine. Her blog, Bougeotte features everything from photo diaries of her travels to beautiful places around the world (read : Monaco, Paris, London and Seychelles) and her love for style icons from the likes of Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O, to the latest item on her lust list and inspirational images. Weekend Inspiration #21 : Model Behaviour

Can you believe just three weeks ago all of us were getting hyped up over the start of a new season? Fast forward about a month later and we're right in the middle of Paris Fashion Week. After hectic shows at New York, London and Milan, the fashion world has now turn its attention and affections onto the City of Lights. And what is fashion week without models?
Models are one of the main reasons why I get uber excited over Fashion Week, apart from the gorgeous clothes of course. They're the ones that make Fashion Week fun, cool and glamorous and a model is all it takes to make or break a runway look. But apart from being photographed on the street or sashaying down the catwalk, (or from their Twitter or Instagram accounts,) we don't really get to see their personalities and their off-duty selves in action very often. Looking to Vogue, I found an entire collection of candid backstage shots that continously made me laugh out loud. This was the first time I have seen so many candids in one place! Expect antics, candids and everything in between from the models as they prep up for the runway show and survive the madness that is Fashion Week. As they say, girls do just want to have fun, including models.

MFW : Dolce & Gabbana S/S 2014

Milan has always been to me a city of heritage and exceptional craftsmanship. I mean, which fashion week does culture and luxury as well as MFW? Amongst all the labels showing at Milan Fashion Week however, Dolce & Gabbana has consistently been the one with the most tocco italiano. Ever since discovering the magic of Dolce & Gabbana during their F/W 2013 season, I have since been in love with their cheerful yet exquisitely-made collections. This season, the Italian duo served up yet another gorgeous collection inspired by their hometown of Sicily. Italy has clearly been an endless source of inspiration for their collections, considering that their past nine seasons were all inspired by it's culture and history. But what set the Spring 2014 collection apart was the very strong Greek theme it had. From white temple-like columns and ancient goddesses, to almond blossoms significant to Greek culture and oversized golden coins, these Greek motifs appeared on almost every part of the looks, from the accessories to the clothes.
